iPhone Applications
Submitted by m61 on Fri, 2008-08-01 18:36Since the release of the iPhone, there have been a lot of great applications made available. Since the phones operating system was already jailbroken, meaning that users are able to put any application on their phone they want, there have been a plethora of applications being actively developed on. In this article I'll highlight a few of the applications that I use, and that I like.

STRI: Stochastic Text Reading Intelligence
Submitted by freelancejack on Sun, 2008-07-13 00:08This is my problem, and hopefully you can relate. I can spend an hour reading a dozen news articles each day and still not know the general direction of the world. My interests and biases guide what I choose to read, and so I get a skewed world picture.

A Grid Computing Economy 3 – Online Gaming
Submitted by freelancejack on Tue, 2008-07-08 19:42Part 1 described the mechanics of an economy based on the unused processing power of desktop and laptop computers on the internet. Part 2 gave a detailed example of a digital media store like iTunes that could use this spare power to offer free music while still compensating the artists fairly. In this part, we'll do a comparison of some popular free Massively-Multiplayer Online (MMO) games between the revenue they earn and how and the revenue they could earn through the spare computer power of their users.

Submitted by m61 on Thu, 2008-07-03 12:10In my ongoing series of articles I've written about Ubuntu 8.04 I've described some of the issues I've had with it "out of the box" so to speak. Now don't get me wrong, with some tweaking I've managed to get everything fully functioning and running smoothly. Except my media keys on my HP laptop.

Grid Computing Economies Part 2 - Grid Media Store
Submitted by freelancejack on Mon, 2008-06-23 01:16This is a possible use for the grid computing economy mentioned in part 1 , a media store funded by grid computing. The basic model works like this: a research group buys a large block of computer time for some major computational work they need done. That work is distributed in manageable blocks to users with spare processor cycles in exchange for credits.

iPhone Release Date in Canada
Submitted by m61 on Tue, 2008-06-10 10:48With the WWDC yesterday, Steve Jobs' keynote showed the new iPhone released. Though I didn't watch the keynote, nor do I really care much about it, the iPhone news was highly anticipated and well received [at least by me].

The State of the Internet

All the data was gathered over their entire global network. This report was based on data specifically oriented to attack traffic, broadband adoption and other such relevant data. This first report is based from January 2008 to March 2008.

What to do with a Bachelor's in Math
Submitted by freelancejack on Sun, 2008-05-25 22:59Mathematics, although incredibly versatile, isn't always so useful on its own. Likewise, a B.Sc in Mathematics isn't all that usual unless it is applied to something else. There are a few things I'd liked to have known while getting that degree. I've tried to summarize those things here.
